Covid Update — I’m Doing OK

September 3, 2022 By Barbara Falconer Newhall 12 Comments

covid update -- a negative-covid-test
A negative covid earlier test this week. I’ll test again over the Labor Day weekend. Photos by Barbara Newhall

Covid Update: I tested negative the other day after a round of Paxlovid. I’m feeling pretty OK, but I’ll test again over the Labor Day weekend.

Apparently, I can leave the house now, but I’ll need to wear a mask for five days.

Meanwhile, I’m taking it easy, doing a lot of crossword puzzles and binge watching “Friday Night Lights.”

More binge-worthy TV suggestions are welcome. I’ve got time on my hands. Just type your suggestions into comments below. Thanks.

I’ll post another covid update soon. And thanks for the messages of concern. They helped!

More encounters with viruses at my house at: “Mono — It’s Never Too Late to Come Down With the Cool Kids Disease.”

And here’s one from the early days of the covid shutdown — when we worried that the virus lurked on every surface: “Sheltering at Home Week Three: 20 Seconds — What’s Good for the Hands Is Good for the Potatoes. Right?“

covid update -- I took Paxlovid. the-package
Three fat pills twice a day is the Paxlovid regimen for covid.

I hesitate to recommend any shows until I know what kind of shows you have loved in the past. Any titles you recommend to US? And then I’ll see if I can rec some in the same vein.

      Good idea, Lindsey.

Here are my favorite TV series, all very high quality — literary, imo — drama.
The Crown — Some rocky moments, but hang in there. It gets Shakespearean in later episodes.
Grace and Frankie — Stories of life, love and friendship for grown-ups.
Big Bang Theory — Funny and witty, especially if you count brainy folks among your loved ones.
Bridgerton — Great drama and with a touch of edgy.
Outlander — I’m dying to know what happens next. Great drama. Kinda sexy.
The Good Place — Starts out cornball, winds up profound. Watch this then read the showrunner’s book How to Be Perfect, which will bring back what you’ve forgotten from Philo 101.
Mad Men — Took me back to my 1960s Madison Avenue days.

I’ve also been known to indulge is good, corny, high-quality soapy stuff:
      Downton Abbey
Friday Night Lights. The first season is great. I’m not so sure about the melodramatic plot turn in season two.
Anne With an E — Nice comfy story.
Grey’s Anatomy — This doctor series had me hooked for years.
All Creatures Great and Small — animals!

      The gritty stuff:
Homeland — Gritty CIA drama. Jon was there to watch this with me. Otherwise, I would have bailed.
Breaking Bad — Ditto my Homeland comment. I would never have made it through this one without Jon.

I use it to practice my Danish. 😉 It’s on Netflix with the newly added 4th season. as I wrote to Maja recently (who is also about to start it): I’m jealous you have 4 seasons of it ahead of you!!

OH, right! It’s that show in Danish. I started watching it, then stopped. I’ll go back and pick it up again now that I know you like it.
I’ll practice my Danish, too. lol

The best tv for bingeing: “A French Village” (French), “Detective Montalbano” (Italian), and “The Restaurant: (Swedish)—all available on the great MHZ network.
