Our Flag Is Flying Again This Fourth of July

Once again we’re flying the American flag this Fourth of July weekend at our house for all to see. Jon very obligingly tucked our flag pole into the flag-holder on the front of our garage yesterday. The result is festive — and yes, patriotic. No jets or tanks, just the red, white and blue — and high hopes for the 243-year-old US of A.

At our house we’re trusting that America’s friends around the world — and our not-so-friends — will patiently wait for brighter minds and hearts to reoccupy the White House and take our country and the world in a more sensible direction.

Cherry Pie on the Fourth of July

As Jon and I returned from a barbecue up the street last night with another pair of empty nesters — ballpark franks and cherry pie were featured — Jon wondered whether we needed to take the flag down for the night. I voted no — life’s already too complicated and busy these days to overdo that respect for the flag thing.

Happy Fourth of July weekend to one and all!

More unapologetic patriotism — and a picture of the long-suffering Jon unfurling the flag — at “The American Flag Is Flying in My Liberal, Elitist Neighborhood Today. Here’s Why.”

I used to put the flag out with the UNESCO flag beside it… thought it’d be ok for the weekend…. didn’t last one night, US flag was stolen and UNESCO flag ripped apart

    YES!
It really takes courage to let folks in this liberal elitist community know that we can still love our country and have hope that America will be kind and sensible again!
Our flag is flying even in the Berkeley Hills!

We’re Having a — Merry — Christmas Without the Kids This Year

Christmas has gotten to be a scheduling nightmare in our family. Peter lives in Minnesota. Christina lives in Southern California. Jon and I live in Northern California. That puts 400 miles between us and our daughter and 1600 miles between us and our son and daughter-in-law. Not exactly over the river and through the woods. Read more.
