I Got Covid — Finally

August 27, 2022 By Barbara Falconer Newhall 18 Comments

i got covid heres my positive-covid-test

I finally did it. I got covid. I’ve managed to avoid it for more than two years — by staying home during the early months, getting vaccinated and boosted, avoiding crowds, and wearing a mask indoors everywhere I go.

But now the virus has got me, and I’ve got the covid chills, so I’m doing some on-line shopping for fuzzy sweats and warm, pink PJs to be delivered to my door asap.

I’m feeling, well . . .  sick, but I’m taking Paxlovid and listening to friends who’ve succumbed to the virus: they’re telling me I’ll be fine.

And . . . if I’m well enough to shop for pink PJs — and write this post — how how sick can I be?

(Weirdly, I’m reading Thomas Mann’s “The Magic Mountain,” in which the protagonist is in a tuberculosis sanitorium and keeps taking his temperature. His hovers around 99.7. So does mine.)

Here’s another post about microbes run amok.

      I’m thinking . . . I got it. It hasn’t gotten me yet.

Oh my, I am so sorry it finally caught you. Here’s hoping it will be a light case and short lived! Do enjoy your comfy jammies and a good book. I’m sending you healthy thoughts from Pentwater.

Thank you, Tammy. Thoughts from Pentwater are especially effective, imo. And, yes, I’m spending a lot of time in my jammies!

Yikes! So far, I’ve avoided it, but have a plane trip coming up, so kind of paranoid. Not so much for myself, but I’m afraid I’ll have it, not know it, and pass it on to someone else. Speedy recovery.

Feeling better today. From now on, when I fly I will wear a high quality N95 mask that fits — and I’ll keep it on the entire flight, no snacks. But — maybe I have better resistance to the covid variants, now that I’ve put in my covid time, which at this point adds up to two weeks of my life, and will total 3 weeks before I’m done with the required CDC isolating and masking (if all goes well, that is).

I got it, too! Triple boosted, so all it was only a slight fever, chills, headache and 5 nasty days, plus the Paxlovid treatment. Hope you are as over it as I am. Ted

Five days. Not bad. Maybe I’ll be done with this in a couple more days. I just ordered myself another book of crossword puzzles, just in case.

Yes. It was about as pale as it could get without being invisible. I’m taking that as a good sign. I’m feeling pretty OK today.
