OK. This is not the actual book that got thrown in the garbage. I suspect that I did finally trash that book; I couldn’t bear to inflict it on a real child, and I couldn’t stand the sight of it on my desk. As for this adorable mouse — I drew it myself and taped it to the back of a book that I truly love, “The Growing Up Feet,” by Beverly Cleary.
